Mt. Tibig

Sitio Hulo, Brgy Banalo, Lobo
25 June 2016

For some, mountaineering is truly addictive - once you started you can't stop it!

Still excited from our previous climb in Mt. Talamitam the previous week, we were again ready for another adventure. This time, the road is leading us to another mountain in Batangas located in southern town called Lobo - Mt. Tibig.

We assembled at Buendia at 0300H and took a light breakfast at MCDonald. Together with me were three avid hikers that I have newly discovered - Jeannie, Janice and Myra. Joining us for the first time were Michael and Bars. Dion also made it.

We boarded a Ceres bus bound for Batangas City Grand Terminal at 0340H. Lobo is approximately 130KM from Manila, a 3H drive from Manila on a private vehicle, according to Google maps.

At 0600H, we alighted at Batangas City Grand Terminal. At the terminal we took a jeep bound for Balagtas. We asked the driver to drop us at Balagtas town proper and from there we took another jeep bound for SM Batangas and we alighted at the jeepney terminal bound for Lobo.

Travel time from the jeepney terminal to Lobo town proper is approximately 1H. We reached Lobo town proper at 0815H.

At the town proper, we chartered two tricycles to bring us to the jump-off point at Sitio Hulo in Brgy Banalo.

We were all at the jump-off point at 0840H. We registered, arranged for a guide and finally started the adventure.
There were scattered rain showers along the way going to Lobo but there was a clearing at Mt. Tibig when we started the trek. By the time we started hiking, the sun was up already. It was a very nice trekking day.

Mt. Tibig is scaled at level 2 of 9 difficulty. The trail is well established.

The first hour of our trek is an assault. The trail is completely covered with trees and a nice surrounding fresh green vegetation.

While ascending, I had the chance to take photos of tiny things that catch my attention.

At 1022H, we had a quick rest under a big "Sampaloc" tree and had a "Buko" refreshment. We had fun taking photos while resting and regrouping. We had a nice view of the peak.

We resumed trekking at 1032H and reached the exposed grassland at 1043H. The fresh green landscape view was so eye refreshing. We waited for others along the trail to regroup before proceeding to the peak.

Posing at the slop of the peak.

At 1126H, we were all at the top enjoying the astounding view of the green landscape all around us.
We had our lunch at the peak at 1200H and enjoyed the place together with few other hikers.

Posing on the rock.

We started our descent at 1230H and back at the jump-off point at 1415H, tidy up and prepared to leave the place.

Before traveling back to Manila, we decided to check in at a nearby beach resort for a quick refreshing dip.
On board an owner-type jeep, we traveled to Masaguitsit beach resort. Janice, Myra and Bars had a nice refreshing dip at the beach.
We left Lobo at 0405H and traveled back to Batangas City. We alighted at SM Batangas for a dinner. From SM, we took a jeep going to the Grand Terminal. We were all back at Buendia Terminal at 0800H.
