Exploring Boljoon and Carcar

Southern Cebu - Boljoon, Carcar Road Trip
02 November 2012

While visiting Cebu for a business purpose, I had a chance to visit th southern part of the province for a day. From Cebu Cebu I had a 2.5 hours relaxing road trip along the southern shore line of Cebu together with a fellow traveler Neneth Panares.
Boljoon is a very peaceful place. I was amazed by the simplicity and humbleness of the people living in this town. I love the view of the sea. I was also amazed looking at the old church declared by the National Heritage Commission as a heritage church.

Just like the old churches of Ilocos, Boljoon church was built in a baroque style. The paintings on the ceiling is astonishing. At the left side of the church is an old convent which was converted into a religious museum. The cemetery of the town is located at the right side of the church.
An old wooden school building built sometime in 1940 called "Escuela Catolica" is at the far left side of the old convent. I just loved taking shots of these antique structure in postcard style. Green pine trees at the left and the green mountain terrains as my back drop.
Infront of the old Escuela is a two-story bell tower with the statue of Dr. Jose Rizal infront just beside the national road. After roaming around taking pictures of these heritage monuments, I had a nice walk at the shore line.
The "Ili Rock" reminded me of my favorite "Patapat" viaduct in the Ilocos Norte although the Ili rock is quite short. Traveling up north, we passed by other towns featuring many beach resorts.
We stopped at the town of Carcar for lunch at the old plaza. After lunch, we had a short nice hike going up the hill where the old Carcar church can be found. According to the locals, the church ceiling, just like Boljoon church, is also painted but we were not able to get inside since a mass is going on.

Along the national road, there were about four old houses declared as heritage monuments.
